Developing new synthetic routes to cyanamides

The cyanamide functionality is present in a variety of biologically active compounds including natural products, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. Despite their importance, a general and operationally simple synthesis of cyanamides that offers an alternative to using highly toxic cyanogen bromide remains largely elusive. This talk will provide an overview of two new synthetic approaches to cyanamides that have been recently developed within our laboratory. These methodologies are operationally simple and exhibit an improved safety profile and distinct selectivity when compared to the use of cyanogen bromide.

Host: Professor Kim Daasbjerg, iNANO & Dept. of Chemistry, Aarhus University
