Enabling future nutritional solutions through cross-disciplinary research

The talk will present the dairy ingredient company Arla Foods Ingredients (AFI) and how cross-disciplinary research with academia is a cornerstone in reaching the full potential to develop novel dairy ingredients with specific physiological impact.

AFI is a business-to-business (B2B) company that manufacture dairy ingredients for infant nutrition, medical nutrition, and healthy & sports nutrition. The company is on a constant journey to seek new nutritional and functional solutions for the benefit of global health.

This talk will highlight trends in nutrition, the focus of AFI’s research strategy and how the company drives cross-disciplinary research through public-private partnership research to develop future nutritional solutions. More specifically, the talk will cover topics such as tailoring ingredients for the benefit of gastrointestinal development and -health & disease as well as tailoring protein ingredients to prevent muscle atrophy seen among elderly and fragile hospitalized individuals.

The design of future dairy ingredients with tailored absorption kinetics, specific release of components, structural characteristics designed for specific interactions in the gastrointestinal system calls upon nanoscience capabilities to reach the full potential.

Host: Associate professor Ken Howard, iNANO & Dept. of Molecular Biology, AU

Coffee, tea, and buns will be served from 10:00 am in front of the auditorium.
